Mrs Y.L. Seymour of 3, Windward Terrace, Sourton, Okehampton, Devon EX20 4HL would like to get in touch with any of her friends from Fulham Central Girls School, who were evacuated with her in 1939 to Woking in Surrey. “I was billeted in a lovely large house at Woking called Ashwood House, owned by a family called Derry. There were six of us. The eldest was Miriam Rodreques, then three sisters, Iris, June and Vera, also Joyce Sylvester. My name then was Yvonne Bullivant. If I remember correctly, the school we attended there was called Walton Road. Perhaps someone might remember two teachers’ names.........., Miss Warlock and Miss Hodder. Our headmistress at Fulham was Dr Toms. We acted in Toad of Toad Hall in the local hall. Other friends were Pamela Bryan, Doreen Gunston, Mollie Hill and many more.

Eileen Garnham of Hadleigh, Ipswich writes,

“I enjoy The Evacuee so much. I saw in the July issue that adult blind people were also evacuated. My grandmother, Mary Ann White, was evacuated to a very large house in its own grounds. I wonder if anyone can tell me who the kind owners were? I did visit her, but was only 11 years old and all I remember is that it was owned by a Sir ? and was at Old Headington, Oxfordshire. Many blind people were taken there. It would be good to update my family tree. Also I wonder if anybody was evacuated from The Mount School, Uphall Road, Ilford, to Ipswich. I remember sleeping on the Copleston High School floor the night we arrived and were taken out next day and folk came from houses and chose the child or children to live with them. I was Eileen White from Richmond Road, Ilford. I would love to hear from anybody.
