Fred Keetch was evacuated with Athelney Street and Elfrida Crescent Scholls, Bellingham, London. He would love to hear from any of his school mates.

Thelma Pickering nee Collins writes:

“I was evacuated in 1940 with my sister to Aberaman in Wales. We stayed with a family at the top of Bridge Street opposite a sweet shop and I remember a daughter called Phyllis Evans. The grandfather kept pigeons and there was a lodger called Mr Vaughan who repaired watches. I would love to hear from anyone who remembers me or knows what happened to any of the family I stayed with.”

John Wittering writes:

“Will you please give another mention to the evacuees from OXFORD GARDENS MIXED INFANTS SCHOOL who arrived in the twin village parish of WORTON (pronounced Werton) and MARSTON near Devizes in Wiltshire on the 2nd September 1939. I find it hard to grasp the fact that although I can remember the names of the sixty children who attended our Worton Library Hall School two previous mentions in Lost Touch produced only one response.”

Alan Nesbit was a pupil aged eight at Bannister School, Wilfredwood Avenue, Southampton in 1939 when its pupils and teachers were evacuated to a manor house, which he thinks was somewhere in the New Forest and became a boarding school. He would love to know the name and location of the Manor House. Is there anyone who shared this experience or who otherwise can help him to find the answer?

“I am an idiot, at this point you are supposed to say ‘here here’, some months back a lady wrote to me asking if I could verify that her boy friend went down in the ‘Prince of Wales’. I was able to prove ‘no’. She had been bombed out of New Malden, Surrey and then moved north, I think to Wakefield, Yorkshire. She now lives around Tolworth in Surrey. I’ve lost all her information! Please if you read this ring me again on 0208 274 1587”

Mrs M Vasser writes:

“I was wondering if you could mention CLYDACH, near Swansea, South Wales. I was evacuated from Queens Head Street School Islington, London early in 1944. I believe it was because the V1 and V11 rockets were coming. It would be lovely to hear from other evacuees from that time and who were staying at Clydach. My maiden name was Kelly.”
